Hijas del Campo (HDC) was founded as a community response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the California wildfires, when farmworker families were among the communities that were most impacted. During this time, HDC conducted a community survey, and the greatest need identified was access to food. With children home from school, many families lost access to free school meals, while others were excluded from receiving federal stimulus payments.Following the pandemic, food insecurity continued to affect farmworkers and their families every day. Through our Despensa Program, Hijas del Campo is able to offer direct support to over 850 families every month with food and essential hygiene products like detergent and soup. Currently, our food bags are costing at about $14 per family

This program is made possible through individual donations and support from our community partners including the Contra Costa and Solano Food Bank, Loaves and Fishes and White Pony Express who provide us with in-kind donations.

Despensa day for our Campesinx's who live in San Joaquin County. They work in Contra Costa County and commute from SJC. We hold a monthly despensa there for them, so they don't have to waist gas on commuting to get their despensa bags.
